Last year, we met a young man who in this story will go by Steve. Steve brought his vehicle in to Collision Consulting for a Diminished Value Appraisal. His vehicle, a 2015 Acura TLX, was struck along the drivers side, from the head lamp all the way past the driver’s door. He had his vehicle repaired at the shop that Metlife recommended to him and didn’t think there was anything wrong.
Upon our initial inspection, we found signs that the vehicle was still damaged and misaligned structurally. Steve asked us to investigate further so we had our Honda/Acura trained technician dismantle and measure the vehicle.
We found structural alignment that was far outside the tolerance listed by Acura. This kind of misalignment is a potential safety hazard for the driver as the vehicle respond as Acura intended it to in the case of a second collision. We documented the damage and the repairs that still needed to be done and we help Steve present this to the insurance. Metlife then totaled the vehicle and Steve received the value of the vehicle and the cost of our evaluation. Had the shop discovered and estimated to fix this damage at the time of the initial repair, the vehicle would have been a total loss to begin with.
